It was on this day, after a 14 year wait, that the Pixar sequel The Incredibles 2 hit theaters.

I loved the first movie for so many reasons. First, it was a great super hero film. Second, it had one of the coolest soundtracks! It would be the first Pixar film that was scored by Michael Giacchino.
Director Brad Bird had a particular sound he was looking for. He wanted the music to reflect something along the lines of the soundtrack from the Bond film, On Her Majesty’s Secret Service. He turned to John Berry who composed that soundtrack, but he didn’t want to do something that sounded like what he’d already done. So Bird found Giacchino.
The recording engineer for the project was Dan Wallin. He said that Bird wanted an “old feel” and as such the score was recorded on analogue tapes. The soundtrack would go on to win a Grammy Award.
For the second film, Giacchino was back and the film kept that same “sound.” He said, “it’ll feel like the same universe but we’ll go a couple new places here and there and I think you’ll be happy. It’s an incredibly fun, fun, fun follow-up. So I’m looking forward to seeing what comes out of it all.” Brad Bird said of Michael, “he brings a unique perspective to it and I almost think of him like another character or another actor on the film because he’s interpreting the story and he has a very good storytelling sense, so his music always has a storytelling aspect.”
I just love the Jazz/Big Band feel to the soundtrack, and as a trumpet player – I love the BIG brass sound!
