Lady Liberty Arrives

The Statue of Liberty arrived in New York Harbor on June 17, 1885 (141 years ago today), and was met with great fanfare. Unfortunately, the pedestal for the Statue was not yet complete and the entire structure was not reassembled on Bedloe’s Island until 1886.

100 years later the area surrounding the statue was plagued with a series of hold ups by someone known as “The Statue of Liberty Bandit.”. He would approach his victims and say, “Give me your tired, your poor ….your wallet!”

(I wonder how many people will actually get that joke!)
