Friday Photo Flashback

Over the past few weeks, I’ve gone to a homecoming and seen many of my friends posting on social media about homecoming. Amongst those posts are posts about the high school football games and marching band.

I loved marching band! my senior year, the football team won every home game. That meant that the band got to go out on the field in celebration for the “Post-game Show.” This consisted of us doing a quick step march around the field, usually in a snake formation, weaving in and out of each other and eventually stopping in a formation to play the school song, We Got the Beat, and a couple other numbers.

We had this little ditty called Doggin’ Around, which I loved. I begged and begged the band director to conduct it on the field. He eventually gave in. All three drum majors (seen in the white hats) had to stand and watch me conduct. I just didn’t conduct, I danced on the podium! Hy hips swung back and forth to the music and my hands never missed a cue. The band director said he couldn’t believe that with “all that jiggling, every part was cued in perfectly.” He let me do it the rest of the marching band season. It’s one of my favorite band memories.
