Birthday Shut Out

To celebrate my wife’s birthday, we took in a Detroit Tigers game at Comerica Park yesterday.

It’s been over 10 years since I’ve been to a game. The last actual Tigers game we attended was in 2018 when we went to a Spring Training game in Florida. We got married the day before that game!

We had seats on the third base line. We were just behind the Tiger dugout. There were about 12-15 foul balls hit around us, but none close enough to grab.

It was really a thrill to see Dan Perry of the 1984 World Champion Tigers doing a pre-game broadcast.

Speaking of the 1984 Tigers, they had Lance Parrish’s book at the souvenir shop. I can’t wait to read it.

The day was all about Sam, but I couldn’t get her to take her picture inside the big baseball hat, so I did.

Naturally, I had to get a picture next to the legendary Ernie Harrell statue! He was the voice of the Tigers for most of my life!

After a decent first inning, the Mariners jumped on our starting pitcher. They put up 4 runs and that was all the scoring. It was a disappointing outing.

Even the heart of the batting order couldn’t deliver today. There were so many strike outs. Sometimes I wish they’d stop trying to hit for the fence and just string together a few base hits.

After the eighth inning, we decided to leave. Sam had been up all night for work, came home and we were on the road by 11 for the 1pm game. The sun was out for most of the game and the temps were in the upper 80’s. We were both fried.

During a stop at the concession stand, we heard employees saying that the first aid area was full due to people being overheated. We drank a lot of water, but that heat really did a number on us.

Even though the boys were shut out 4-0, we did have a nice time. We do not get to go out often, so we truly enjoyed being together. Sam told me that she had a very nice birthday.
