Mid-Week Recap

On Friday morning, I got home after working my 13 hour shift and had to stay awake. My father-in-law was going to pick up the kids for a sleep over that afternoon. There were some errands I had to do before he arrived, and when I got home I was truly fighting to stay awake. My wife was already in bed sleeping because she had to work that night.

I was in one of the kid’s rooms and had just finished folding some laundry. I was sitting on the bed and I started to doze. My kids ran in and said that Papa was here to get them. I walked out and made sure he had their overnight bag. They kids had already ran to his car. I walked over to kiss them and then went in and fell asleep.

My wife texted me from work and said, “The kids went to my mom’s with no shoes!” I laughed, because I hadn’t looked. They were already in the car to go! Thank goodness they weren’t going anywhere.

It was 3:30pm when I went in to go to sleep. I never heard my wife leave for work, and I slept until about 9:30pm. I heard the dog in her kennel, so I got up and took her outside. She ran for a bit and I debated running up to get something to eat. I decided to scramble up a couple eggs and then to try to go back to sleep.

I’m not sure why, but I turned on the TV and was scrolling through the various Live TV channels. One of them was playing Fantasy Island from the 70’s. Ricardo Montalban was Mr. Roarke and Herve Villechaize was Tattoo. I was surprised, honestly. I don’t remember the show being as dark as it was. I recall there being an episode or two that kind of scared me as a kid, but I never really grasped the vibe of the show obviously.

For what it is worth, it was nice to see stars like Adrienne Barbeau, Pat Crowley, Joseph Cotten, Karen Valentine and a very young Nancy McKeon in the episode I watched. I think that was why I watched Fantasy Island and Love Boat. There was a lot of star power on those shows. I may have to revisit some more episodes.

I was back in bed by midnight and I slept until almost 9am Saturday morning. That is unheard of for me, but I’m sure my body needed to get caught up on sleep.

The weekend itself was uneventful. We didn’t do a whole lot except housework. Monday, the weather was actually nice. I had some wood that I had to cut up and we decided to have a bon fire. It seems like forever since we had one! The kids, Sam and I all sat by the fire and enjoyed the night.

A friend of ours was walking with her kids in the neighborhood and they stopped to chat. My wife and I said that it felt like forever since we talked to someone who was not our kids. It was great because their kids played with our kids and we got to socialize.

Yesterday morning, Sam had to take Ella to the doctor for a check up. It was just me and Andrew hanging around. He asked if we could watch TV and snuggle. It didn’t take long for the dumb dog to jump up on the bed and before I knew it, They were watching together.

I got to sleep a little before work, but I was up extra early. I had to teach the sleep classes for the Carnegie Institute last night. Needless to say, by the time my wife was over this morning, I was pretty pooped. Early day again tomorrow as we have training for a new system upgrade. That usually means a ton of computer issues and crashes – should be a “fun” day!
