Life’s Little Moments

Some people just know how to throw a party. My kids were invited to a birthday party over the weekend. I was told that it was a “Fairy” theme. When I turned onto the street where the birthday girl lived, it was obvious which house she lived at. There were big/oversized flowers, mushrooms, log slices and a bubble machine. When we walked up to the house, I saw that the garage had been turned into a fairyland/forest.

They had the food up against the wall and a big screen TV playing Tinkerbell (and other fairy themed movies) throughout the party. All of the food items had place cards in front of them making a fairy-type reference. For example the popcorn has some sort of edible glitter on it and it was referred to as fairy dust. They had taken skewers and put grapes and watermelon on it to make magic wands!

They also had fairy wings, magic wands and fairy headbands for all the kid guests (even though many adults were wearing them, too). The birthday girl was dressed up as Tinkerbell, her mom also wore fairy attire, and dad had a t-shirt with a fairy on it. They went all out!

My kids had a blast. They spent a lot of time on the waterslide bounce house. They each had fun taking turns hitting the pinata. They way they hit each other at home I was surprised at how gentle they hit it. I wish I had gotten a picture of the cake. It was huge and very detailed. It was also delicious.

They had a clown there who did face painting. My daughter is all about that! She got her face painted and loved how it came out.

She told my son that they had tattoos they could put on him. He said he didn’t want one. Honestly, I think he might have been afraid of the clown. He wasn’t too keen on the fairy movies either.

In the end, they did both have a good time. They each got a goodie bag at the end of the party loaded with stuff. By the time we got home, it was clear that they were pooped. I knew it would be close to bedtime. I was surprised that my daughter asked to wash off the face paint before bed. They both got pajamas on, brushed their teeth, and got into bed. My daughter said, “I’m just going to read in here, Daddy. When you get Andrew tucked in, you can come tuck me in.” Not five minutes later I walked into her room. My little reader was out like a light.

I tucked her in anyway and kissed her goodnight. She even slept in the next day! If that doesn’t tell you that the party was a blast, I don’t know what will.
