Tune Tuesday – Days Like This

Happy 52nd Birthday to singer/songwriter Rachel Proctor.

Rachel was one of the first artists I met when I became Music Director at 94-5 The Moose. She came to the station in 2003-2004 just as they were getting ready to release her first album on BNA Records, “Where I Belong.” I recall them playing a few cuts from the album and I was really impressed.

Here first song, “Days Like This” would reach the Top Thirty. I don’t really recall what the atmosphere on radio was at the time, but one of her follow ups, “Me and Emily” did a little better breaking into the Top Twenty. I know we played it on our station because the program director and I really liked it. It would be her best charting single.

As a singer, she only had minor hits, but as a songwriter she has done very well. She wrote Martina McBride’s 2002 hit song, “Where Would You Be?” She has also had songs recorded by Blake Shelton, Jessica Simpson, Gary Allan, Jana Kramer, Lauren Alaina, and Kenny Loggins.

She left BNA Records and has focused on songwriting. She released two independent albums, “What Didn’t Kill Me” (2009) and “Only Lonely Girl” (2007). I think she is a fantastic songwriter, but I think she should have had more success as a vocalist. I really loved hearing her sing.

Happy Birthday, Rachel!!

That sneaky ol’ sun finally reared it’s head,
Sneakin’ through the window, sayin’: “Get out of bed.”
Kids are laughin’ and playin’ outside in the street.
I step out on my front porch in my bare feet.
Drink my coffee, walk the dog, then I’ll stop by your house.
‘Cause I was hopin’, maybe we could just hang out.

Days like this are made for doin’ nothin’,
But layin’ around, soakin’ up your lovin’.
There ain’t nothin’ better than a long, lingerin’ kiss,
On days like this.

Let the wind blow wild, let it mess up our hair,
Watch the world go by like we don’t have a care.
When those old crickets start singin’ an’ the moon shows it’s face,
We’ll still be layin’ on this blanket lettin’ time slip away.

‘Cause days like this are made for doin’ nothin’,
But layin’ around, soakin’ up your lovin’.
There ain’t nothin’ better than a long, lingerin’ kiss,
On days like this.

There ain’t nothin’ wrong with bein’ lazy.
So c’mon over here an’ love me, baby.
Love me, baby,
Oh yeah.

Days like this are made for doin’ nothin’,
But layin’ around, soakin’ up your lovin’.
There ain’t nothin’ better than a long, lingerin’ kiss,
On days like….
Days like this
Days like this
