A “Remarkably” Good Movie

Readers of my blog know that I often post book recommendations. One of my favorite books over the past couple years was Remarkably Bright Creatures. It was a story that has really stuck with me and continues to be one that I tell people about.

When I heard that Netflix was producing a movie based on the book, I was not sure what to think. So often movie adaptations stray from the book it is based on. Shortly after hearing about the movie, I heard that Sally Field had been cast as the main (human) character. I knew then that I definitely had to watch it when it came out. It has taken me a bit, but I finally had the chance to see it.

What an amazing film! It’s been some time since I read the book, but the movie really stays true to it. Sally Field’s performance is just marvelous. She was absolutely perfect for the role of Tova and Alfred Molina’s narration as Marcellus the octopus is magnificent.

Once again, I took that emotional roller coaster ride that brought smiles, tears, and an ending that left me just as the book had – in awe. If you haven’t read the book, I highly recommend it. I’d actually read it first, before watching the film. It will only make the movie even more powerful.

  1. I saw a trailer for it on Netflix and thought it sounded like it could be reasonably good. I might look it up since it doesn’t seem to appear on the recommendations list lately
