Here is a local story that has been the punchline of many jokes this week. I can’t recall when they mentioned it, but it was pretty big news. Along one of the freeways Detroit was going to get a sign “like the Hollywood sign.”
It was promoted with many mock photos (probably done with AI). They really made the sign look pretty awesome!

It wasn’t until the revealed the sign this week that the jokes began.

This caused quite a bit of social media posts about this new “eyesore.” I would say of the comments I read (or saw on local news) about 8 out of 10 were negative. The funniest post I saw on Facebook summed up what many of the people were saying.

After looking at many pictures of the sign, I admit it is less than spectacular. There was only one photo I saw that made the new sign look decent, and it was all because of the angle.

I appreciate all that the city is trying to do to bring about a new image, however, I wonder how much time and money was spent on this when there were so many other things that needed the money.
I will be honest with you. I can’t help but feel like many of the people who spouted off opinions on the sign who asked, “Which letter will be stolen or defaced first?” I hope that isn’t the case, but we shall see.
I think the intention was a good one, but unfortunately, I agree with those naysayers. It will be tagged almost the minute it gets put up. I will have to find out where it goes so I can check it out the next time I hope across the river.

I believe it is off I-94, but I am unsure of where.

I’m hoping it will look better when all landscaped and finished off, but really doesn’t look like the artist’s renderings -)

I just saw a post where it said, “When you buy your sign on TEMU” I got a good chuckle out of that

A good idea put together by people not good at their jobs? Looks a bit underwhelming, plus somehow looks to come at you backwards. But good on ’em for trying to improve the city’s looks and image

It blends in with the background way too much…but I agree…more important things to spend it on.

Maybe the city should let Elon Musk and Space X design the sign. I feel for Detroit.

Yeah not the greatest but it’s rare Ive seen a city where they turned out great. I know my hometown of London put up a number of poor efforts.

I can’t figure how to post them here right now, but Glasgow’s skyline is decorated with a skyskraper draped in a big pink / purple sign declaring ‘People Make Glasgow.’ There are also various city centre walls / buildings with a big yellow happy Mister Man proudly telling everyone that ‘Glasgow Smiles Better.’
It’s true, they are quite inaccessible for potential vandals, but they really DO help create a positive attitude and feel about our great city. :)

I looked up the pictures online. I can see where they would be a positive thing.
