I’m not here to start anything. I understand that Columbus Day is frowned upon. Whether you are for it, or against it, it makes no difference to me. All my life it was Columbus Day.
Columbus is kind of a big deal to Italians. I believe they still do a parade or two in his honor. St. Patrick was Italian, but March 17 is an Irish celebration. Columbus Day is really the only Italian holiday.
There are only two reasons I even am posting about Columbus today. The first is so I can post a song that has always been a favorite.
Lou Monte recorded many Italian songs and had a hit with Lazy Mary back in the day. As an Italian, he saluted Christopher Columbus in song. It is sort of a novelty song, but I always got a kick out of it.
The other reason is because since Columbus Day has become “taboo,” I’ve decided to celebrate a different holiday…
Just one more thing … Have a great day, no matter what you are celebrating!
I'm just a guy who likes the classics. I love Old Time Radio Shows. I love Classic TV. I love Classic Movies. I love songs from the "Great American Songbook". I dig songs from the first decade of Rock and Roll. Don't get me wrong, I am not opposed to newer things. My musical taste ranges from Classical to Classic Rock and Country to Rap. I love a good book and am always looking for something to read. I tend to lean toward historical fiction, biographies, mysteries, and more.
I have always believed that our past (and the things we've experienced in it) make us who we are today. That being said, after reading through some old My Space blogs (yeah, that's about how long it's been since I blogged regularly), I decided that I should once again write. Welcome to my blog. I hope you find it interesting, thought provoking, and entertaining in some way.

to me, it’ll always be Thanksgiving (still can’t get used to having thanksgiving near Christmas down here!). Simultaneous holiday in Canada, always second Monday in October.
And I agree- it’s Columbus Day! If you want to celebrate Columbus or Italy, by all means do. If you want to take it as a nice day off with pay in fall with no meaning, then do. If you feel he was a villain and stole a continent, then go preach that . But don’t try to rewrite the calendar and change history. And don’t get me started on the ‘Festive Winter holiday’ in December….
Happy Columbo Day to you! 😅 Very clever. 😄
