Convicted

A pastor I know once said about the Bible, “You don’t read the Book, the Book reads YOU!” Perhaps that is why more people don’t spend time reading Scripture. All too often (almost 100% of the time) I will read something that I can apply to my current situation. Either that, or I am reminded of something I shouldn’t be doing.

Anyway, as I read my Bible today, I came across two verses that really convicted me. The verses are II Corinthians 6:3-4.

II Corinthians 6:3 “Giving no offence in any thing, that the ministry be not blamed: (6:4) But in all things approving ourselves as the ministers of God…”

Verse 4 goes on, but the first part of the verse was all I needed. Basically, verse 3 is saying that our behavior should not cause others to reject the Gospel. Then verse 4 goes on to say that in all circumstances our behavior should affirm the Gospel. That really spoke to me.

Last week, we had a situation that I could have handled a bit better. I was not too happy that some coworkers just weren’t doing what they should have been doing. I called them out on it and was probably a bit more heated than I needed to be (this wasn’t the first time this situation has arisen and this time around I had enough).

People see me with my Bible at work. They know I am in Bible classes. As a Christian and an Ambassador for Christ, everything I do is scrutinized. If I give anyone a reason to say, “Well, if that is what a Christian acts like, I don’t want to be one” (or something like that). This isn’t just true of work, it is true of every day life. Honestly, sometimes that is extremely difficult.

However, those verses and their meaning will be staying with me for a while.

That pastor was right. As I was reading the Book, the Book was reading me and knew exactly what area I needed to be working on in my life.
