Beauty is in the eye of the beholder ..

Forgive me if I have blogged about this before. Every spring my yard seems to be filled with dandelions. Those stupid weeds!

That’s not the way the kids feel about them, however. They are “pretty” or “beautiful” flowers. They are fascinated by them.

Yesterday, Ella was picking a special bouquet for mommy.

Today, Andrew was out picking them too!

I’m sure that as a kid I picked my share of dandelions for my mom. She displayed them in a plastic cup in the kitchen, just like Sam did.

Weeds? Nope. Exotic flowers for a special someone.

  1. We have had our share of dandelions & clover. I routinely eat dandelion greens (the big ones, not the little yard ones). Has Ella made a necklace or headband out of clover, yet?

Dandelion flowers are edible, too. You just have to be careful as many people use pesticides or roundup in their lawns.

    1. I have never eaten them, unless they were in a salad or something.

Ella has yet to have clover “jewelry”. I’m sure it won’t be long. They made her a flower headband for the daddy daughter dance we went to, though.

  2. When I was a kid, just like all kids everywhere, I picked dandelion flowers for my mother. She treated them like the most precious orchids, placing them in a little glass jar in the center of our dining room table. I felt like I had given her the rarest gift on earth.
I think I may have just written my next story!

  3. I like them, actually seems a shame to mow them down…but they do pop back quickly! Great example of ‘one man’s trash is another one’s treasure’. I occasionally buy a bag of dandelion greens to mix in with salads…I’d pick them off the lawn but like Vic suggests, hard to know what’s been sprayed on them, even at home.
