I woke up for work yesterday happy to see that the Tigers beat the Mariners 9-3 to tie up the series. The “winner take all” game #5 happens Friday night.
In what I read, the bats came alive after being down 3-0. This is good to hear as some of the bats had cooled down toward the end of the season. I truly hope that they will get everything together to beat Seattle. They are playing away, so they need to strike early and often to quiet the home crowd. My fingers remain crossed.
If they can take the series on Friday, they will go on to the ALCS and play Toronto, who have already secured their spot there. They beat the Yankees 5-2. The Blue Jays haven’t been to the ALCS since 2016. I won’t lie, I am glad to see the Yankees out of it. Toronto has a good team this year and if the Tigers advance, the series will be a good one to watch. Both teams are hungry to head to the World Series.
I heard that the national announcers were poking fun at Tiger fans during the broadcast today and yesterday. There were a lot of open seats in the stadium, so they were saying a bunch of junk about it. Let’s face it, the MLB makes it pretty hard for fans when you schedule games in the middle of the day on a workday.
I know I have to let my bosses know at least a month ahead of time to take time off. I’m sure that I am not the only person who can’t just decide to take a personal day at the last minute. They really need to do better about scheduling these games later.
It is an exciting post season! There are several hungry teams in the mix. Go Tigers!

Middle of the day? Most companies I know have backlogs of 2-3 months so taking a day off just for a game is frowned upon.

go Tigers! I , as a JAys fan, actually am fairly indifferent to whether we take on Detroit or Seattle- both are good teams, each have different strengths. But I’ll be happy for you if your guys take this series and head up that 401 to visit Canada! I noticed in the Wild Card series Cleveland didn’t sell out their stadium either, whcih looks pretty bad but let’s face it – playoff games are expensive. Not everyone has that kind of money these days. And you make a good point on the timing – I get it, they don’t want 4 games running simultaneously but weekday afternoons aren’t the most convenient. Maybe more night games in the week and more day games on weekend – better to see the games in day, and at this time of year, 3PM temperatures are likely much nicerthan 9PM ones in places like Detroit (or Cleveland, or Boston etc had one of those teams advanced). And what the H are they doing with the TV? How is it conducive to growing the sport having the games on all sorts of increasingly-obscure cable networks? I was only able to SEE one Jays game, the first one which was on ordinary FOX TV. I looked into getting MLB TV for the month but found that I still wouldn’t see the games live on there unless I could prove I already subscribed to the cable network (in this case, Fox Sports) that ran the show. And what point would there be in that?

Same deal here with the Jays games, even though CTV could have run it parallel to Sportsnet since they already paid for the rights.

Yeah, the TV situation is really wacky. I don’t understand why there are so many games spread throughout all of the various services. It is frustrating for sure.
I was thinking about you as I wrote this post. If we do advance, it will be a good series. If the Tigers play like they did pre-All Star Game, it will be very exciting. Congrats to the Jays!

Hope you’re Tiger’s win. That was my team prior to the creation of the Jays.

Their last appearance in the series was in 2012. They were a very young and inexperienced team at that time. The sweep was not a surprise. I’m hoping that if they do beat the Jays and advance they play like they did early on.
