Angry at the Queen – Dairy Queen!

A lot of people are angry after hearing that Dairy Queen has discontinued their Cherry Dip Cone! The item has disappeared and reappeared from the DQ menu for a few years now, but it seems that it had officially been discontinued according to an MSN article.

A Michigan Dairy Queen shared the news on their TikTok page. “Unfortunately, today I have some bad news, and I feel like a lot of people will be upset about this. I don’t know when or if it’s returning, but Dairy Queen is discontinuing their cherry cone dip,” the narrator of the video says. “It’s already sold out in our warehouse, so once we deplete the inventory in the store, we’ll be sold out until further notice.”

When a local news agency reached out to DQ for some answers, they issued a statement:

“At this time, the Cherry Dipped Cone at Dairy Queen is being discontinued,” DQ confirmed in a statement that seems to allude to the possibility of the item returning in the future. “Fans should check with their local DQ restaurant to learn which flavors are available,” concludes the statement.

For me, the Cherry Dip allowed me to enjoy the best three flavors. I loved getting the chocolate vanilla twist cone dipped in Cherry. I truly hope that it is not gone for good.

Stereotyped?

We have a gal at work who talks about the funny stuff she watched on this TikTok App. Another friend will occasionally send me text messages with a link to some TikTok video. When this happens, I will watch it on the web and not in the app.

Well, recently, someone sent me a link to something and it said, “Would you like to open this in the App?” Well, usually this makes things easier. The app was already on my phone, I just never used it. So I created an account and it suggested friends from Instagram or my contacts who had accounts. Once I finished setting up the App and following a few friends, I watched the video that was sent to me and I closed the app and that was that.

The next time I opened up the app, I was bombarded with videos of big breasted women in revealing outfits, videos suggesting some sort of sexual act, or scantily dressed women lip synching to movie lines. It was ridiculous.

The next time I saw my co-worker I asked her, “Just what the heck kind of videos do you watch on that TikTok!?” She told me she gets animal videos, silly videos, and stuff like that. I told her, “I swear, all I get are boobs!” She laughed and thought I was joking. I opened up the app and literally kept swiping from video to video and she couldn’t believe it.

She asked if I had liked any videos yet. I told her I hadn’t, because all that had popped up were ones like the ones I showed her. Occasionally, a friend I follow would pop up with a video, but the majority of the stuff coming up was that trash. She told me that once she started liking videos the app’s algorithm started showing her more of the stuff she wanted to see. She said, “It probably sees that you are a 50+ year old male, so boob videos come up!”

So … I have been stereotyped? The algorithm is set specifically to show all 50+ year old males these types of videos? Yeah, no thanks. This app is one that will be deleted. I don’t need to see this stuff.

What bothers me the most is wondering what kind of things the algorithm is picking to show kids! I don’t even want to think about that …..

Reels – Another Annoyance

Many people have already left Facebook to venture over to other social media sites. This is due to censorship, “fact checking,” and so much more. I just can’t bring myself to leave Facebook. First of all, I have 12 years worth of memories on there. I have pictures, videos, and other random memories that I enjoy seeing. Second, many of my former radio and record friends are on there and it is one way I keep in touch with many of them. Next, many of my pastor friends, church friends, and people who share the same faith as me, are all on there. While I can watch many of their live streams on YouTube, I can also watch saved “live” sermons after they have been recorded on Facebook. I’m just not ready to leave it …

REELS

I don’t have a TikTok account, but almost everyone I know has one. Basically, it is a place for people to create stupid videos. It seems that Facebook and Instagram are trying to keep up with them, so they created their own “version” called “Reels.”

I hadn’t really noticed them when I am on Facebook from a laptop, however, when I am using the Facebook mobile app, they are very prominent in the news feed.

These stupid videos are much like the Snapchat “stories” I blogged about recently. Today’s reels included:

  • A gal snapping her finger and every time she is in a different outfit
  • A teenager lip synching to a bad rap song
  • Some dude golfing
  • Another dude golfing
  • A dash cam video of a truck being tipped over by the wind on a bridge
  • A large breasted model walking through a crowd of people while people took her picture
  • A guy eating cereal while milk came out his nose
  • A woman jumping up and down – and each time she hit the floor she had on a new pair of shoes
  • A few wild football plays
  • Animals caught on Ring doorbells
  • Pranks (so called) where it is obviously set up and everyone is in on it
  • People dancing to Brooks and Dunn’s Neon Moon

The above list was just from today’s occasional checks of Facebook. Some of the “reels” are actual TikTok videos.

I don’t get the appeal of these. My wife says that they are kind of addicting. I don’t know, every one I have actually watched was either boring or was a huge build up to …. nothing spectacular.

It is bad enough that when I scroll through my Facebook newsfeed, I rarely see anything from friends. There always seems to be some sponsored link to a product or story. Sometimes there is the “click bait” stories (“A man discovers something terrible in his closet,” “The last photo in this set will leave you in tears,” or “Chilling pictures from INSERT TRAGEDY HERE“) . All I want is to see what’s going on with my family and friends.

These Reels and Reel-y annoying!!
